I Work Hard for the Money

19 Last Seed

I spent most of the morning chopping wood to sell to Hod.  It is relaxing work, and he pays well.

I also managed to make a friend of Faendal and an enemy of Sven, even though they are both liars and I would have no part of their deceptions.  Faendal asked me to deliver a forged letter to Camilla Valerius, ostensibly from Sven.  That was sleazy, so I let Sven know -- only to have him ask me to deliver a forged letter and say it was from Faendal.  I wasn't going to lie to Camilla like that, so I told her it was a fake letter.  Somehow this all worked out for Faendal and he's been grateful to me ever since.  He's a jerk, but it's nice to have a friend I guess.

I brought him hunting with me in the afternoon, and killed a rabbit and a deer.  I made their hides into leather, and forged a couple of daggers to sell.  The rabbit was good eating for dinner.

Still sleeping at Alvor and Sigred's place.

I brought Faendal to Whiterun with me, and tried out some alchemy at the shop there, using ingredients I've gathered while out hunting.  I'm a natural, and I made some great stuff, but the woman running the store gave me a poor price for my creations.  I will need to learn how to haggle better.

And I think a pickpocket stole a robe from my pack.

Oh well.  I made enough to at least buy a sturdier bow, for hunting, which I immediately put to use and brought down another elk.  Faendal and I also tracked one to near an old ruin, but then we saw a suspicious character in the distance coming towards us with bow drawn.  Whoever it was, they lost sight of us and we didn't stick around.

I went back to Riverwood and chopped another load of wood for Hod.

I have managed to earn a moderate sum from these various odd jobs.  I'm thinking of striking out for winterhold one of these days to join the mages' college there, to study healing and alchemy.  Maybe I'll find a book there on conjuring a mystical bow and arrows -- all the steel kind are costing me a Jarl's ransom.
