Winterhold
Exciting news! I have been accepted into the Mage's College in Winterhold.
I arrived in town after an uneventful trip by carriage, and found Waylandriah's missing ingot in short order. Then I went straight to the school to see if it was right for me. It is. It so, so is.
I can't even begin to describe how impressed I am with this institution of higher learning. Everyone here is singularly focused on the study of magic and the open sharing of knowledge. The instructors are each masters in their own areas of expertise. And the Arcaneum! I swear by ALL the aedra I've never seen so many books gathered together in one place.
There was a brief entrance exam, but I have little experience and did not find it to be difficult. I expect it is intended to keep out the truly, deeply inept.
I've been given a nice little room in the Hall of Attainment. It isn't anything fancy, but I don't need much space and it beats staying in Inns all the time, plus I get to hang out with the other apprentices who are all pretty cool. Brelyna and I have become good friends, and Onmund is just happy to have another Nord around. J'Zhago puts on a cocky act, but really he's adorable.
I'm already learning so much. Tolfdir, the Master of Alteration, gave an introductory lecture on safety and taught me a ward spell. And tomorrow he will be leading us on a field trip to an archeological excavation of the Saarthal ruins.
I do normally make it a point to avoid ruined tombs, but this is a group outing with all the other apprentices and a couple of master wizards, and Tolfdir is always very safety conscious. Besides, it's not as though it is unexplored. The college has already been in there doing research.
The amount of knowledge available here at the college is exciting. It is, however, kind of expensive. With the cost of spell tomes and instruction, my purse is already feeling quite a bit lighter -- and I haven't even started to acquire magical items to destroy for my enchanting lab work yet. I'd better see what I can do to earn a wage nearby.
Anyway, that's all for now. Need to get a good night's rest in before the trip to Saarthal.
